Dear Parents/Carers,

This week we have been looking at Maths. I have spent time in each classroom getting to know the children better but more importantly seeing for myself fist hand how this important subject is being taught. The children have once again worked very hard to achieve in many different ways.

COVID 19

The same rules apply regarding reporting cases to school. If a child has symptoms please make sure that you arrange for a PCR Test as soon as possible. If a child develops symptoms at school we will ask you to come and collect your child straightaway and arrange for a PCR Test. If the result of the PCR test is negative then the child can return to school, unless they are too poorly to attend.

For further clarification then please check the DFE website:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak/step-4-update-what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges

Please check our school website for the dates for some of the key events which we have planned for this year. Dates for events such as Sports Days and Nativities are on our calendar. In sharing these dates with you, our aim is to help our families organise time off work, for instance, so that everyone is able to make the most of the precious memories that will be made on these dates. As the year progresses, further dates and events will be added. We will inform you of significant events in either the weekly newsletters or class newsletters.

Next Week’s Highlights:

Monday 4th October Sacred Heart Open Day 5-7.30pm

Message from Sacred Heart Secondary School:

An invitation to all parents and children to the Y6 Open Evening on Monday 4th October 5.00 – 7.30pm. The event will give you the chance to hear the progress we are making as a school and my vision for the coming years, as well as important information from other key staff and pupils. You will also have the opportunity to take a tour of the school to experience our subject areas and facilities for yourselves.

The Y6 Open Evening is one of the highlights of our academic year and we hope to see you there. We will be working closely with our feeder primaries over the coming year to ensure a smooth transition into secondary education for your child. We look forward to welcoming you all into the Sacred Heart School family. If you have any queries about open evening, please contact us either by email at [email protected] or by phone on 01642 487100.

Wednesday 6th October Y1 Walk

Year 1 will be walking to Rosecroft Woods on Wednesday. Please can we make sure children have a coat and appropriate shoes or wellies!!

Thursday 7th October School Lunch Pupil’s Choice Day

We have a special one-day menu full of the children’s favourite dishes and hope as many pupils as possible join us to sample this delicious food.

Friday 8th October Hello Yellow Day

We all struggle with how we’re feeling sometimes and it’s normal to have ups and downs.

This year might have felt a little more down than up. But it’s the little things that have got us through it – the morning walks, singing in the shower, the perfect cuppa, that Netflix show that got us all buzzing, the bestie who makes you LOL, the teacher who has your back.

Saying Hello Yellow this World Mental Health Day is a little thing we can do to make a BIG difference to young people’s mental health. Because a little yellow goes a long way.

We ask that all children wear yellow and bring in a voluntary contribution of £1 on Friday 8th October.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Another week has tumbled by and it is evident that he children are truly trying to act out the school’s mission statement. They are showing that they really do come to school to learn and encourage each other to do their best, even when things are difficult. As normal routines are becoming established the children continue to impress me with their positive ‘can do’ attitude towards learning.

This week I have been fortunate to collect in many English books to look at the quality of the children’s writing and how some are already making progress since the start of the year. See the stars of the week for those who have excelled in writing.

Individuals are not required to self-isolate if they live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, or are a close contact of someone with COVID-19, and any of the following apply:

  • they are fully vaccinated
  • they are below the age of 18 years and 6 months
  • they have taken part in or are currently part of an approved COVID-19 vaccine trial
  • they are not able to get vaccinated for medical reasons

Instead, NHS Test and Trace will inform affected individuals, children or their parents or carers that they have been in close contact with a positive case, and advise them to take a PCR test. We would encourage all individuals to take a PCR test if advised to do so.

Car Parking:

Can I remind everyone that you should not park directly opposite the school entrance. Please be considerate when parking on the road outside school. We want to make sure that everyone is safe.

P.E. Kits- Reminder

We have decided to change the way that children get ready for P.E. Instead of bringing their PE kit into school and changing at their allotted time we will now revert back to the conditions we had last year. This means that children can wear their PE Kit on the days they complete PE all day. This avoids time being wasted on changing and lost school uniform and P.E. Kit.

Please see list below that details when each class has P.E.

  • FS1/Little Joeys- Do not change for PE.
  • FS2- Tuesday
  • Y1- Monday & Friday
  • Y2 Monday & Friday
  • Y3- Wednesday & Thursday
  • Y4- Wednesday & Friday
  • Y5- Tuesday & Thursday
  • Y6- Tuesday & Thursday

After School Clubs:

Packed Lunches:

As a Healthy School, we aim to promote healthy eating. Please don’t send sweets or too many treats in the packed lunch box. We still have children attending the school with nut allergies so don’t send anything that has nuts in please.

Stars of the Week:

This week certificates have been awarded to children who have worked in well in their writing tasks.

Friday 17th September 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

I think that it is fair to say that the children are certainly back in to the swing of things now. Today also sees Y6 on a school trip which is brilliant as we can start to do more ‘normal’ school based activities.

A shorter newsletter this week as all the class teachers have completed curriculum newsletters for you to read on the school website.

Please can I remind parents that medical /dental appointments should be taken outside of school hours when possible. If this is not possible we will ask for a copy of the appointment for our own records.

COVID 19

Can I take this opportunity to remind you all of the COVID regulations at school.

Unfortunately the virus is still very present in our school community. Although as a school our response has now changed and we no longer have to close class bubbles if we have a case, we do still need to be vigilant. We have already had a positive case in the school since the summer break.

What is now different are the rules for households. Individuals are not required to self-isolate if they live in the same household as someone with COVID-19, or are a close contact of someone with COVID-19, and any of the following apply:

  • they are fully vaccinated
  • they are below the age of 18 years and 6 months

Swimming

Sessions have started back brilliantly and it is lovely to hear how much the children enjoyed swimming this week.

Medical Reminder:

As stated in a previous letter can all families be vigilant when notifying the school if your child contracts measles, chicken pox or shingles. This is very important so we can advise parents any appropriate actions can then be taken

After School Clubs:

We have the following clubs on offer for the next 6 weeks for children from FS2 to Year 6:

Monday – Football

Tuesday – Netball (Only Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6)

Newsletter 10th September 2021 FINAL

Friday 10th September 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a very busy week it has been here at St Joseph’s as we come to the end of our first full week back at school this term.

I would like to start by saying how delighted we have all been with the start that the children have made. They have already shown great determination to succeed and an eagerness to learn in lessons. It has been lovely to return to more ‘normal’ school activities and in particular school collective worships. These have been a joy as has a return to singing as a full school.

Thank you for your continued support of the school. Please now take the time to check through the following reminders.

COVID 19

Unfortunately the virus is still very present in our school community. Although as a school our response has now changed and we no longer have to close class bubbles if we have a case, we do still need to be vigilant. We have already had a positive case in the school since the summer break.

P.E. Kits

Please can I remind you all that P.E. lessons have restarted. If children could bring P.E. kits into school on a Monday they are ready for P.E. sessions for the week. We will then ask all children to take P.E. kits home on a Friday to be washed and ready for the following week.

Swimming

We are thrilled that swimming sessions are restarting next week for the Y4 class. A separate letter has been sent out to the children involved.

After School Clubs:

Another back to normal routine restarts next week with the return of After School Clubs. We have the following clubs on offer for the next 6 weeks for children from FS2 to Year 6:

Monday – Football

Tuesday – Netball (Only Y3, Y4, Y5, Y6)

Wednesday – Art and Crafts

Thursday – Multi sports

Friday – NPCAT Sport

Clubs need to be booked via Parent Pay in advance.  To ensure that clubs can run smoothly we ask you to sign up for a block of sessions, the cost of each club is £9 for the 6 weeks.

School Trips:

Y6 will be visiting the Ironstone Museum on Friday 17th September. A separate letter has been sent to the Y6 class.

Medical Reminder:

As stated in a previous letter can all families be vigilant when notifying the school if your child contracts measles, chicken pox or shingles. This is very important so we can advise parents any appropriate actions can then be taken.

Packed Lunches:

Every day that I am in St Joseph’s I try and make sure that I help in the lunch hall. As  A Healthy School, we aim to promote healthy eating. Please don’t send sweets or too many treats in the packed lunch box. We still have children attending the school with nut allergies so don’t send anything that has nuts in please.

Curriculum Newsletters:

Class teachers will send these home next Friday. You can find out exactly what your children will be learning this term.

Term Planner:

Being new to the school I thank you for your understanding and patience whilst I get to grips with everything that happens at this brilliant school. It is our intention to send out the planner for the term soon so watch this space……

Welcome Letter from Mr Geaves

2nd September 2021Simon Geaves

Dear Parents/Carers,

Let me take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New School year. My prayers are with the whole community of St Joseph’s as we hopefully return to more ‘normal’ times and less disruption to all our daily lives because of the pandemic. I continue to pray for all those who have been affected by this terrible virus in so many ways.

My name is Simon Geaves and I am the new Executive Head Teacher here at St Joseph’s Primary School and also at St Paulinus Catholic Primary School in Guisborough. I have been the Head Teacher at St Paulinus for 9 years and have worked closely with Alison Toward in that time and know a little about the school already. It is a privilege to have been appointed as Executive Head Teacher of both schools as I am committed to providing every child with the opportunity to succeed whilst at Primary School. My entire career has been spent in Catholic Education and I look forward to getting to know the families of St Joseph’s in time.

I have already had a busy summer getting ready for this position and have had regular meetings with Mrs Toward and Miss Wright. Today, I have introduced myself to all the children and I can already tell this is a very special place. I have had some brilliant chats with the children at break and lunchtime.

Whilst my position is different to the one held by Mrs Toward my commitment to the school is unwavering. As I will need to share my time across two schools I am delighted that Miss Wright will be able to make sure the school continues to go from strength to strength whilst I might be in Guisborough. My first priority this half-term though is certainly getting to know you all.

As you know a fond farewell was given to Mrs Toward who retired before the Summer Break after many years of service to the school as Head Teacher. I am sure you will join me in wishing her all the best for a long, happy and restful retirement. I am very grateful for the wonderful position that she has left the school in.

I plan to be outside at the gate in the morning please pop over and say hello!

Yours sincerely,

Mr Geaves

Dear Parents,

On behalf of all the staff, thank you for the lovely gifts, cards and good wishes. They are very much appreciated.

What a strange year it has been but we have done so well with only 1 bubble closure in all that time.

Dear Parents,

We were fortunate in completing our school sports day before the rain started! Thanks to those who sent money in, we have passed this on to Isaac so that Children’s Cancer North can benefit.

The winning house on the day was ………….St Joseph so well done to those children. I think all of the children deserve a mention as they were all great sports.

Dear Parents,

We have a really busy final few weeks in school.

Gospel Reading

This week’s reading is from St Mark’s Gospel. Jesus was back in his home town and teaching in the synagogue. The people were very surprised. They couldn’t understand how Jesus, who they had known since he was a little boy, could have so much wisdom and teach so well. Let’s see if next week we can try not to judge anyone for where they come from or who their family is, but instead listen to them, look out for the special things that they do, and see what we can learn from them.

Sports Day timings for tomorrow are:

🏅 Early Years – 10:00am
🏅 Rest of School – 1:15pm

To help everyone stay cool, we will be selling cold drinks throughout the event for 50p for carton drinks and £1 for cans and bottles.

At the end of Sports Day, there will also be a cake stall, with cakes priced at 50p each or 3 for £1. All money raised from the cake stall will go towards our Year 6 Sleepover Event next month, so we'd be very grateful for your support.

We look forward to seeing lots of families there and hope for a wonderful day of sunshine, smiles and sporting success!
