Dear Parents,
This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Pentecost. This is a very special time when the disciples and other Christians received the Holy Spirit.
The reading comes from St John’s Gospel.
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘When the Advocate comes,
whom I shall send to you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who issues from the Father,
he will be my witness.
And you too will be witnesses,
because you have been with me from the outset.
Pentecost occurred 50 days after Easter Sunday. Jesus had already gone back to Heaven so the disciples and new believers of Jesus were waiting to receive the Holy Spirit because that’s what Jesus told them would happen. Plus, since Jesus wasn’t with them anymore the Holy Spirit would help bring them closer to God.

Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed the rather wet Bank Holiday! Not quite what we would have wanted but still nice to have the long weekend.

Dear Parents,
As you know, I will be retiring at the end of this academic year. I am delighted to announce that Mr Simon Geaves will be joining St Joseph’s from September. He is currently Executive Head teacher at St Paulinus in Guisborough and Sacred Heart Primary in Middlesbrough. He will move to be the Executive Head Teacher of both St Paulinus and St Joseph’s from September 2021. Mr Geaves brings a wealth of experience to St Joseph’s and will further develop the school in future years. I have worked with Mr Geaves at Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust and previously when we were part of the smaller Nicholas Postgate Trust. I am delighted that he is taking over from me and wish him every success as he develops his Executive Headship role across both schools.
We are both currently working hard to ensure a smooth transition for the children and staff and you will meet him in due course.

Dear Parents,
Lovely to see the children back in school, especially as lots are in their summer uniform
and Y6 have their leaver’s hoodies on. I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break.

Dear Parents,
In our Easter liturgy this afternoon we heard the Easter story. Each class sang and Y6 narrated as we worked through Holy Week to Easter Sunday. Well done to all of the children for singing so beautifully and to Y6 for their clear narration.
